So what of instead just taking all your fuel and using a fusion reactor
to drive an ion drive that itself uses the reactor waste as the reaction
mass.

(Lots of reactions there! (:-))

And then there is the idea of using a huge magnetic drive to react
against the galactic magnetic field...

But what's the most plausible for working?
