Right where I did- on the eastern side of the Continental Divide, at 10,000 feet
in the Colorado Rockies.
On the plus side:
Some of the darkest skies in the world.
Nights are almost always clear.
Very dry, little snow.
No dew or frost.
No bugs.
Great quality of life, reasonable access to civilization.
Great weather- only a few days a year over 80F, RH usually below 35%.
On the minus side:
Rather unsteady seeing. Not a big issue for imaging, but not a good location for
those into very high resolution work.
