Some actually appreciate.
I did a fair amount of rationalization, just the same. And everytime I looked
at it, I could have found any number of places to throw money where the ROI
would have been much worse. I live a pretty modest lifestyle, excluding this
particular avenue of extravagance. Look at what it costs to take a family on a
one week ski trip.
Also, not to seem selfish, but I have no kids to send to college, and did not
have the opportunity to go myself when I was young. I view this hobby as my
education, and my opportunity to enjoy a scientific pursuit while my eyes are
still up to the task. What is that worth?
