I think we understand what you mean now, but your language is unclear
(empirically, since Chris and I both misunderstood). Since I think we'll
concede that what you meant is correct, I don't understand why you feel
compelled to stick with your original wording. There is a significant
chance of reading it as

    Longitude has nothing to do with how far magnetic north is from
    true north on the compass.

especially as trying to figure out true north from magnetic north on the
compass is what started this thread. It certainly wasn't whether walking
to the north magnetic pole by following the compass would lead you along
a great circle or not.
