It makes little sense to recommend a "high end" refractor to someone on a
budget, someone who is considering a couple of inexpensive 80mm refractors.
I think it is important to keep things in perspective. We are talking $300
scopes here.
Do the mirrors in these scopes compare favorably to Carl Zambuto mirrors? I
doubt they do. Some might. However that is not the issue.
Rod Mollise seems to think they are pretty good. The other day Mike Spooner
told me that he had spent some time looking through a 10 inch Orion and the
from his point of view, the optics were excellent all the way around.... Mike
and Rod are both people whom I trust......
I feel comfortable recommending these scopes because I have a few of them and
in comparison to other scopes that are available at anything like these price
points, they perform admirably both on the planets and in the deep sky.
