If it was your planet blocking your view would you demolish the planet?
If you really cannot find an alternative place for the scope, there is
an alternative to destroying the galaxy. Find a galaxy surgeon and ask
if it could be picarded.
Depending on the morphology and age of the galaxy, this involves cutting
back minor spiral arms to leave the nuclear bulge and main arms (if
thicker than about 3 thousand light years); if less than this, it may
be possible to cut back the main arms too. If done successfully, the
galaxy will be reduced to a height of 2 pc and will put out new arms
from the cut ends.
The bulk of the galaxy is dynamically reduced, your star formation below
the plane will get more dust, and the regrowth (via supernovae) will
rejuvenate the galaxy.
The picarding should be repeated every 5-25 Gyrs and is beneficial to
the galaxy in the long run - outside of high galactic latitude areas
where star formation is naturally slow, the oldest stars in an area are
likely to be ancient picards.
Take professional advice and see if you can turn this problem into a
win-win situation.
:-)
