This is pure uninformed speculation, and as such is unfair. See below.

I've recently tested both the University Optics orthos, original and HD,
against a TV Radian and AP SPL, all in 12mm focal lengths. I kept the HD and
sold the others, not because it was orders of magnitude better, but because
it offered comparable performance at a much lower price. The HD was better
than the original orthos, IMHO, because the newer coatings reduced flare.
However, as I posted in another thread, I still consider either of the
orthos to be sleeper eyepieces.
Disclaimer: testing done with a 5" Mak-Newt of excellent quality by a
62-year old man with good eyesight (20/15 corrected) and no astigmatism.
YMMV considerably.
