All excellent stuff except the bit about the binoculars.
I do not believe that binoculars provide *quite enough magnification*
to see what the beginner *really wants to see*. Raising the
magnification to only 30x is much more exciting than 7x or even 10x.
Anything higher in magnification (if the scope will tolerate it) is a
nice bonus. But in reality you don't need anything above 120x to enjoy
the sky for many, many years.
Otherwise your post is a revelation here amongst the dollars-spent
racers.
I personally award Jon Isaacs The s.a.a Member of The Year status.

Now all we need to do is get the manufacturers to improve the
mounting!
