The way I understand it, a limitation with USB is that one of the devices on
either end of the cable must be a PC. This is not so with FireWire. So if
you had a digital camera with a FireWire interface, it's possible for the
firmware allow an external FireWire hard drive to be connected. But the USB
specification does not allow anything like this. It could be different with
USB 2.0.
