It was Discover, not Discover (the Dec. 2004 issue, to be exact).

I used to subscribe to it years ago, when it was a much better mag'
(and it seemed there were at least three or four quality "popular"
science mags around back then). I let my subscription run out awhile
ago, when I decided it was no longer worth the price. However, I did
pick up that particular issue at the newsstand, partly out of
nostalgia, and partly because I was intrigued by the teaser. The
article in question had tips such as as using space-based giant
thermonuclear lasers to heat a point to 10exp29 K or so as to to
create enough negative energy to open a wormhole into another parallel
universe, or something like that. (I suspect that Geordi will need to
realign the flux capacitor to get that to work)
