A friend of mine (Les Howarth) wrote a book examining that
question from a sceptical viewpoint a few years ago. It's published as
"If in Doubt, Blame the Aliens", ISBN: 0595156932. It gives an
interesting methodology for assessing the evidence in such
poorly-defined issues. To my mind it also illustrates the weakness of
such approaches, but I'll leave that for any readers to assess.
