Well, "powerful" and "visible 2 miles away" aren't useful descriptions. But I
can say that in my location, at a high altitude with clean, dry air, I need a
laser on the high end of the power range to get good results as a pointer. For
me, the difference between 5mW and 3mW is significant in terms of visibility for
people standing more than a few feet away from me.

I'd buy a laser from someone who guarantees a power rating, but not from someone
whose idea of powerful is "visible 2 miles away" (I've seen my 3mW red laser
from 8 miles away with no difficulty at all, but it is useless as a star
pointer).
