Absolutely. The very best film astroimages are made just this way. Color film
has the same sort of problems that color sensors have-poor control of the
passbands and poor performance with narrow band sources. The fix is to control
the spectral response externally with accurate filters. Take separate images
through (nominally) red, green, and blue filters. These can be combined by most
image processing software. For instance, in Photoshop, you would paste the three
B&W images separately into the red, green, and blue channels of a new image.
Voila- color.
