I understand the different reasons for "flipping" but what really did
surprise me (and continues to) is the relative little depreciation that
occurs in that transaction.
10% off is no bargain and the risk the buyer takes on is considerable.
While I understand a highly sought after APO that is made intentionally
scarce by the manufacturer might demand the buyer to pay a premium, I
was surprised how much people are willing to pay for used goods that
they could easily buy new for a small bit more.
(FYI...one cannot assume that APOs will continue to bring higher
prices...this market is already experiencing considerable pressure from
imports.)
I am also very surprised in what prices Astromart gets. Here is a
specialized market with a knowledgable buyer membership which would
seem to place considerable downward pressure on what an item would
bring. Perhaps I am assuming more experience than there is.
Scope of the Month Club is an appropiate name for a significant amount
of the activity I am seeing. I too know of ham radio flippers and I
think I am seeing the same behavior in this market.
