G'day Mike,
The Guan Sheng 8" f6 dob is a real bargain over here in Oz - can be had for
$399 with 4 plossls and moon filter.
This scope is sold under various brand names, including Hardin, and should
be cheaper in the States.
I've bought one for a staff member as a bonus, and it is a great beginner
scope, with really quite good optics, that shows an awful lot of stuff.
Having 2x the light gathering power over a 6" scope makes it a lot easier to
locate and see detail in deep space objects.
Being f6, makes it a better choice for planetary and moon viewing than all
the usual f5 scopes (not counting premium optics here.
There is a review on www.cloudynights.com of the Hardin version of this
scope.
Hope this helps,
Ashley
