You are comparing apples to oranges. Registax is a very specialized
image processing tool designed exclusively for image stacking. Maxim is
a general purpose image processing app and camera control tool (US$399,
or US$299 with image processing only). Maxim does a thousand things that
Registax doesn't- camera control, guider control, full scripting
interface and ASCOM support, astrometry, photometry, etc). I use Maxim
for camera control and some processing. I use Registax for other
processing (of AVIs in particular). I use CCDSoft, AIP4WIN, and
Photoshop, too. All these programs have their strengths and weaknesses
for image processing.
