Have you tried to install MS patches on a system, via broadband?

Not only is it *not* an endeavor of a few seconds, but this process can
take, in some cases, several hours.

Factor in the percentage of dialup users, dropped connections and busy
servers, and updates are almost understandably avoided.

Incidentally, this is also true of OS X, at least insofar as the size
of some of the updates.

Many of today's moderns OSes should include" broadband" in their list
of hardware requirements.

There needs to be a better delivery model, probably subscription based.
But consumers don't want to pay for it and companies are not inclined
or incentivized to do so. I don't have an answer but this is a real
problem.

The FTC and the feds may have once been able to mandate this type of
system, but that horse is long out of the barn.

But imagine buying a freezer that would heat instead of freeze if you
inadvertently put a particular brand of ice cream in it.
