A simple but quite accurate observation, Martin. It reminds me of a phone
conversation a friend had with her parents. She was planning on going home
for the holidays and called to tell her parents that she would go only if
they agreed not to be at each others' throats the whole time she's there.
Her parents were on separate phones and each started accusing the other of
causing the problems. Eventually they were just arguing with each other --
over the extensions in different parts of their own home -- and ignoring my
friend. She hung up the phone and left them arguing, probably not even
noticing that she was gone for quite some time. She didn't go home for the
holidays that year.
