Some very good advice on this thread. I would recommend picking up a copy
of the latest edition of Starware. Its a couple of years old so a little
out of date but it does give you a decent idea of what is out there and
what your money will buy.
That being said, unless you know exactly what you want to do in the hobby,
a moderate size Dob (about 8" f/6) is probably a good starting point.
