BTW, some posters have bad-mouthed the US corporation. A corporation is a volitional contractual relationship of multiple investors and producers who aim to make a profit by means of producing higher quality products, in quantities, at lower prices.
This is the noble aim - however the modern corporation is amoral at best, and has in fact been hijacked by a notable few individuals. These individuals seem to have a similar defect in physiology/psychology that a bulimic has - they utterly gorge on profit, without limitations, and without satiation.
Profit is the only measure of worth. And even the concept of worth or value loses meaning - If you look at Corporations in evolutionary terms they are similar to an amoeba - or a gastropod that must move to eat and eat to move ad-infinitum.
The mantra of 'must answer to the shareholder' leaves ashes in the mouths of those who observe the effects of such wanton aggrandisement.
how about the corporatisation of medicine - difficult to impossible to afford except by the very wealthy, and even then don't get too sick (Christopher Reeve? TS?)
how about the corporatisation of food - factory farms concentrating chickens into cages, cattle into feed lots, all pumped with anti-biotics and steroids to boost growth and the pharmaceutical industry.
Couple this with the Monsantisation of Nature - plants engineered to be resistant to RoundUp, replacing the natural gene pool, for vast profit and who knows what ecological consequences.
I could go on, and on, and on. Your point that corporations are dedicated to producing more and more goods of better and better quality does not hold water. We have seen quality reduce! (eat too much meat and watch your bitch tits grow; low fat means trans-hydrogenated fats - which clog cells even worse than butter clogs arteries; eggs that taste like slimey fish etc etc etc)
Corporations are individuals with no soul; the amoral pursuit of profit at the exclusion of all other considerations might fit the blue skies 'manifest destiny' ideal of early American Capitalism, where profit is to be torn ad-infinitum from an open system is WRONG.
We demonstrably exist in a closed ecological system...
'ecological' implies the hard core amorality of evolution and the principal of natural selection
- "The survival of the fittest"
If corporations do not develop a conscience - a soul, or core of morality,
then we are in for some very difficult times indeed as evolutionary forces play out amongst the worlds corporate citizens.
And the little guy on the production line (or at the battlefront) gets screwed every time.
The fundamental principle of the corporation is that it provides divisible ownership and investment opportunities in the
a noble aim - but allow it to go too far one way and Feudalism returns, allow it to go too far another way and we have PRC style socialism (which is really just Feudalism anyway)
context of protected individual and property rights.
those property rights are increasingly in the hands of a few, and NOT even in the hands of the inventor.
Individual rights are under attack everywhere.
(A Chippy in my home town had to change their name after 40yrs of trading under their family name because a multinational came to town - Macdonalds... )
The corporation has produced more wealth in history
yup, for the few! If shareholders make a buck then it is at the expense of someone else (foreigners perhaps) or at the expense of everyone (inflation)
remember .com? That was real wealth eh? It was a massively stupid inflationary bubble propelled by mass hysteria and GREED - people wanting something for nothing.... Ultimately, who made money -people did you know! Who? The usual suspects, thats who.
We are currently in a death march with the explosive growth of real estate ownership and values (you'll never lose money in real estate is the mantra:) - this current insanity is fuelled by the Banking CORPORATIONS slavering at the prospect of hollowing out all those baby boomer superannuation funds... and there will be absolute sh*t to pay when the time comes to pay the piper.
There are glimmerings of strife now as interest rates fluctuate up by just a few fractions of a percent - we have the onset of criticality in the housing market where tiny fluctuations in interest rates cause big and unpredictable (maybe) fluctuations in prices and number of houses on the market.
Ultimately you will see all the carefully sequestered superannuation money evaporate - where to?
Betcha the banks know...
Don't blither on to me about how great Corporations are.
They are totally amoral individuals that NEED to develop a conscience,
or they are going to get one ripped right up the collective, corporate Kazaa... ;)
than save for the concepts of individual and property rights, the more basic concepts.
Forget laser aircraft spotting devices and neat rebate schemes with PRC officials.
