Re: 10" Dob - Ideas on Brands etc . . .

Don't forget to look at Hardin Optical scopes, seems to have similar
design as the Celestron, and DBA Astronomy is having an April web
special, with good prices and special mods to make it work well.

OTOH, if DSCs are in your future, the Orion Intelliscope add-on is
inexpensive and all the mounting work would already be done for you.

And don't forget that Orion 10" is Pyrex whereas the others are plate!

OTOH, the Orion has a lube-job rack and pinion focuser whereas the
Hardin now comes with a Crayford---a nice plus.

In any event, you'll want to get a fan for the back and the great thing
is that all 3 companies' mirror mounts take fans--and that Hardin/DBA
are including them at no extra charge now.

Last, but definitely not least, there's also Discovery Telescopes--whose
hand-figured mirrors are excellent and, seemingly, consistently so,
whereas others who know more than I, say the others are inconsistent,
though still good. If you have the $$, Discovery is certainly worth it.
