Pierre-
Guiding with the ST4 is very fast, in spite of the slow interface. Only
the actual pixels around the guide star are downloaded. I've used my ST4
to control a tip/tilt corrector at more than 20 corrections per second.
There are many advantages to not using the integrated controller. My
experience is that guiding with Maxim provides better results, it
provides a more comfortable interface, it can be managed remotely, and
calibration is automatically adjusted for your actual declination (that
last is a big time saver).
