Re: Newbie- Saturn looks same through scope as with naked eye?

Finding planets when you've never done it before is something that can easily go
wrong, especially if you're unfamiliar with the sky, something the more
experienced observer did go through but it happened so long ago that they forgot
what a trial and error process it was.

If you did nothing to the telescope except moving it from the Moon to Saturn,
then based on your description of the view you had the wrong object. Remember,
there are other things up there other than the Moon and Saturn, namely stars,
lots of stars, and in Saturn's case lots of bright stars near it, relatively
speaking. For beginners, finding something up in the sky can be compared at
times to a road trip where you're trying to get from one town to another, when
you don't know where you are, you don't know where you're currently heading in
your car, and you don't know where North is on your map.

Good Luck !
