Re: Disassembly of Meade 7-inch Maksutov

Has anyone here ever taken apart the Meade 7-inch Mak to remove the lead
weight behind the mirror? Does anyone know of a schematic or even a
simple drawing showing disassembly of this OTA? Does anyone know of any
collimation problems that might result from disassembly (the Maks are
collimated at the factory and not by users). Please don't answer if you
just have an opinion or idea on what might or might not work. I'm
looking for someone with actual experience. I can get advice from my
teenage sons any day ;-)

If memory serves me correctly, I thought I had read in the past someone
removing the weight on thiers, and there was some discussion about it.
I believe the topic is either in one of the Yahoo groups (Meade
Uncensored, or "Mak"sutov groups) You may also wish to google for any
info. You may be able to find the exact person this way who modified
