Intel invented the uP, and continues to be the force behind most of the
innovation. AMD is just a copycat. Intel is one of the truly great tech
companies.

If this story is true (and it's been suggested before) it could mark a
turnaround for Apple. The bottom line is that Apple barely treads water
as a computer company. They have a pitiful market share, and there's no
sign that's going to change. But switching to an x86 architecture will
force them to port their OS to that platform. That opens up the
possibility of running OS X on ordinary PCs. Not something I'm looking
for, but it could open up a huge new market for Apple, and really put
some juice back in the OS wars (which everyone will benefit from).
