I don't think the permissions system itself has changed significantly
in the last decade or two. What has changed is the way the system is
administered. At least with the Unix variants I was dealing with 20
years ago, we did not sudo any commands. No, we just went in and su'd
to a root shell. Then, too, none of the systems I worked with even 10
years ago had shadow password files.

These enhancements do not change the permissions system, but they do
improve the way it operates. They make compromise less likely.

But 10 years ago, it was still better than Windows 95.
