Are you a DirecTV subscriber? Take 2 minutes and do me a favor

I just got done spending 3 wonderful hours watching the live coverage
of the Deep Impact mission on NASA TV, which is carried by DirecTV.
When the old guy sitting next to the NASA TV anchor reported that they
had lost the S-band link with the impactor, I got a big grin on my
face. When the impact had been confirmed and the control room erupted
in cheers, that grin got bigger. And when they showed those spectacular
images of the event from the cameras on Deep Impact, I was wearing a
bigger grin than I've worn in .. well, quite a while. Hell, I was
teary-eyed. When you see something that so many people have worked so
hard on for so long come together this well, it just makes you feel
good.

The rest of the "news networks" more or less ignored this. CNN
International had a few minutes of live coverage after the impact, but
by and large, it seems like the folks at CNN, MSNBC, and Fox think that
a third re-run of the latest Natalee Holloway news is more important.
This is why we need access to NASA TV. Yes, it can be streamed from the
Web, but it's not quite the same as watching it on the big screen from
the comfort of your recliner.

I just went to DirecTV's Web site and left a note with Customer Service
thanking them for carrying NASA TV. If you value the availability of
NASA TV, I would encourage you to do the same. Content providers in
general (and DirecTV in particular) can be somewhat fickle about the
content that they serve, and it never hurts to let them know that you
appreciate something, even if it's something that seems somewhat
esoteric, niche, or special-interest.

So if you subscribe to DirecTV and have a few minutes, drop them a line
and make your support of NASA TV known. It would be a shame to have it
replaced with yet another shopping channel.

Thanks for your time!
