An annular is very interesting and has some of the excitement of a total
solar eclipse as the Sun is covered. It misses the excitement and wonder
of a total by quite a lot, though. I viewed the annular phase of the
hybrid eclipse in April from Panama and enjoyed it. It was worth the time
for me (including traveling to a new location) but I led the tour so I
didn't have to pay for it. Everyone else did and there were other tours
there (our small group included observers from Japan to Europe) so
obviously a lot of people think it's worth it.
Why not try it and see? Then you'll know for next time. :-)
