And they are not that reflective. But wouldn't it be easier to plate a
speculum metal mirror with aluminum than to aluminize glass?
Although I learned recently that today's hard drives no longer put a
magnetic coating on aluminum - they put it on glass. Perhaps the higher
thermal conductivity of metal is a problem - but the main benefit of
glass is probably that it takes a higher polish than metal.
