An excellent premise.
Many of us do have that much invested in the hobby - or close to it.
In one opinion, the "best" way to do it is over several different
scopes. A small portable apo refractor (3-5 inches) for quick looks, and
a large dob - 18-24" (with tracking and goto). Both with the best optics
available.
If there's anything left, a medium sized (10-14 inch) high quality
travel dob.
For the visual observer, this covers just about every situation.

True Vlad, and I agree wholeheartedly with you opinion. Most "Highly
experienced" amateur buddies of mine have chosen this particular route,
and so have I to a point.
I myself must have approximately $12K worth of eyepieces alone. One
mount with around $12K invested in it (AP1200GTO), a smaller Byers 58 EQ
Mount (For my AP Traveler), an Apomax 5.2" F12 Apochromatic Refractor,
and a recent Fastar C-14 as my "light bucket".
Adding up all the do-dads such as Barlows, Adapters, Filters, Cameras,
Baader Binoviewers, numerous Diagonals, Finderscopes, etc, etc, you then
begin to realize where all your money went! lol
I live near mountainous areas (Southern NM), and yes, during the summer
clouds take over in the late afternoon, and night, but still many many
good nights to utilize large aperture, and some steady seeing on hand
many times for good planetary. Mark
