Cleaning up an ST80?

Some time ago, someone posted instructions on how to remove the really
thick grease that is on some ST80 focusers and fix some of the other
problems that those scope came with.

Does anyone have a copy of those instructions?

I imagine mineral spirits would do the job, but what would be a good
replacement lubricant?
