We are on the same track, Doink. I've been using a phillips toucam pro
for planets (the CG5 mount works well enough for this). Last Xmas I
bought a Canon 300D and discovered the challenge of accurate drift
alignment, and the meaning of "periodic error". Heh heh heh.
I can't say enough good things about the 300D. All you have to do is go
do a google search for astrophotography and 300D. So today, I plonked down
some green for a GM-8 (used but in fine shape, except for a stuck leg,
which I can repair tomorrow).
I think the 300D prices should be getting pretty close to your target
(perhaps they're already there in the used market)soon. Just my 2cents,
and I'm no expert.
But I have LOTS of opinions. ;-)
Good luck,
Uncle Bob
