As long as the lens are not glued together, the best way to get rid of the
salts and crud is to use luck warm water, either soaking and then changing
water offen or a in a basket under running water. Then a chemial bath to
remove anything the water doesn't take off that got on the glass. Then a
very light buffing with a camera lens cloth on both sides. The metal body
can be cleaned the same way but for a shorter time and if any salts or
anything else a poshing wheel on a dreamal motor tool to clean out the
inside and then outside. The lens coatings might be distroyed, but that
depends on how much gunk is on them.
Doing this is how I've gotten two of my old german made preset telephoto
lens for my camera, only thing I had to have done by a repair man was to
clean and lub the iris & barrle movment areas with the right lub. I've had
them now for 15 years.
