What's inside a Kendrick Dew heater ?

Dear All,
I have a Kendrick Dew Heater strip for a Meade 10" LX 200 that I would like
to use without the fabric covering. The reason for this is that my dew
shield slips over the end of the LX200 and down the tube quite a way, and
there is not enough space between the shield and the OTA for the Dew Heater
to fit......
If I was to remove the fabric, it looks as if there would be plenty space,
and the heater strip itself would also be protected from the elements by the
sew shield.
So - is it possible to use these without the fabric covering ? If there is
any danger of shorting, I could cover the strip with insulation tape or
similar to fix this, but I don't want to pull the thing apart unless I am
resonably certain it will work without the fabric covering.
Any ideas ?
Thanks,
Alasdair
.
