Hi, Actually Haze is sometimes not such a detriment to good planetary viewing. Nor is light polluted skies.
One night a few years ago I set up in my backyard in downtown Austin to take a look at Jupter and Saturn. Torpid, hazy night with limiting overhead magnitude at maybe 3.5. The view of Jupiter through my orange C8 (which BTW kicks the teeth out of any 4" APO) was stunning - easily the best seeing conditions I've ever seen. Distinct detail in the bands was constantly visible, not like the normal glimpses that you get most nights. I mentioned it to a friend on the other side of town a few months later, and he remembered the night too.
Haze has nothing to do with seeing or contrast.
