Can this be random or does it need to be minutely controlled?

Thanks for the pointer - and particularly for the term drizzling! That shall make my
search somewhat more focussed.

Yes, though that would involve manipulation of the camera. I don't have a webcam that I
can do that with, though I suppose replacing with a PTZ movable security cam could be
an option. I'd like to set up the capture as a script/program so that human alignment
of the images is not necessary - wih a mosaic I run the risk of misalignments. It'll
depend on the accuracy of movement of the camera.
