I ordered a high end diagonal from telescopes.com. It took 10 days for the
product to reach me---that's not their problem. They shipped me a cheapo
diagonal. The box and the product were clearly marked so it was not an easy
mistake to make. Before they could "exchange" for the correct diagonal
(more than double the price of the one they sent), I had to return the
wrongly sent one at my expense and wait for the return to "clear". I
understand that, but it was their error and they could have been more
accomodating---additionally, their people are extremely rude on the phone,
after all, it was their screwup. After a couple weeks and no response to
emails, I called. They received the return but did not have the proper
diagonal. So, why didn't they call me? Remember, they've had my money for
nearly a month at this point---and they told me they had the item in stock
when I returned the cheapo. So, I asked for a full refund so I could buy
the diagonal elsewhere. At first they fought that---"we don't give direct
runds, only store credits". After three calls and several emails, they
finally agreed to refund. I had made the mistake of paying those crooks
with Paypal so they had the cash. However, they wouldn't refund shipping
"because it is against their policy". They would not refund the shipping,
even though they sent the wrong thing??????!!!!!! I fought like heck for
the shipping refund and they simply refused. My sense from talking to them
on the phone is it's a business run from somebody's garage and that they're
all related. Seemed like a very sleazy business to me. I still don't
understand how a $10 refund on their error would break the bank unless they
are a totally shoestring operation. And remember, I sent the item back at
my time and expense. I am sure some of you have had good luck with them.
But I don't want to buy from someone where "luck" is a factor. I certainly
wouldn't send a newbie into their clutches. Consider the shipping cost on a
telescope! The buyer could really get screwed there!
Yes, it's only my experience. Yes, only one sample. Yes, I'm sure you've had
great "luck" with them. So stipulated. I, however, had a very bad
experience with them and would never go back. And I would strongly caution
against buying from them.
