Think of it this way...a literal reading of the bible has very little
to do with God's word...the current bible sold over the world is the
"King James" version commissioned by...you guessed it...King James of
England. It was translated from Greek & Latin/modified/edited by a
commission under his direction. Prior to his version, there were
"dozens" if not "hundreds" of gospels that were packaged in dozens of
bible versions that were floating around. He directed the commission to
take the most "popular" version (not the term "popular", not
"accurate"), edit it down (remember that printing was a lot harder
then), and come out with a "consensus".
If you are following a "literal" bible interpretation, you are in fact
following the opinions of a governmental committee from hundreds of
years ago, who were trying to meet a deadline, keep the "king" happy,
and make it managable for the mass publication methods of the time.
