The first line of the Matthean genealogy is an apparent mistake as he
inverts the order of Jesus,Abraham and David.
The author assigns 3 divisions of 14 generations but omits a generation
in the last section.
The Matthean genealogy is the work of a genius and understood as such
for those of genuine grace and love of Christ and Christianity. For
everyone else it is an unpenetrable text made of a list of names
organised into 3 sections.
The contemporary views of Matthew pleading his case in Palestinians
Jewish terms is some stretch given the volatile text, far more political
that Luke and very little in common with the Johannine community.
The genealogy stands out as an anomaly in Matthew as a highly developed
form of the Genesis chronology from Adam to Noah.It is only dumb
contemporaries who opt for the lowest common denominator by forcing
things into the text that are contrary to the intents and purposes of
the Judaeo-Christian authors.
The works are too finely crafted for your eyes and that is what will
always keep them special and especially the Johannine corpus.
