Before you mail that letter -- here are some tips --

1. Keep your letter factual and non-emotional. Describe exactly what
happened, step-by-step.
2. Send the letter Certified Mail - Return Receipt Requested.
3. Keep a copy of the letter and attach the return receipt to the copy.
4. Contact the police and tell them what happened. If any cops stop by
your sidewalk site, talk to them about filing a report.
5. Keep a diary of this entire incident and everything that spins out of
it -- date, time, what happened, to whom you spoke, what they said, what you
did in response, list telephone numbers, badge numbers, and the like.
6. Check the phone book for Legal Aid -- LA provides attorneys at no cost
to low-income folks. They cannot file suit for you but they can advise you
as to what you can do and how to do it. Or, if you know an attorney, as if
he will give you some assistance for free -- most of them will talk to you
pro bono provided you don't become a pain in the ass -- and you may find one
who is an astronomer who will give you lots of help.

It's time to shut down this *** -- you've gone too many extra miles with
him.
