Re: Telescopes in the Movies

Telescopes sometimes appear in movies as set decoration

Funny about that. A couple of weeks ago I got a retirement party invite for a manager who worked for me (I retired 13 yrs ago) but lives quite a ways away (so we never socialized all that much). Their big hobby was breeding arabian horses on a 5 acre spread 40 miles east of L.A. He also built and flew (and crashed) model helicopters.

I was very surprised when the photo on the party flyer showed him standing next to a pier-mounted 12-14" Meade SCT! I emailed his wife and she replied that he is "into astronomy" and is always "complaining about the weather". Definitely not "set decoration".

The only hint I had back when we worked together was the wild ride one evening to look at the meteor showers back in 1990 or so: A failed attempt, since we never found dark enough skies.
