Re: help me understand how a Mac is virtually immune to viruses?

I know other's have given a more technical (i.e., computer) explanation. I'd
like to give it as an analogy.

It's like real viruses, the kind that are causing the bird flu concerns.
Viruses, with few exceptions, are very specific to the types of organisms that
they can infect. In the case of Macs verses PCs, think of Macs as plants and
PCs as animals. So different from one another that a parasite, be it worm or
virus, that can infect one is not going to be able to infect the other because
they're so different. The hardware is similar and corresponds to amino acids
and such, but the software is the DNA code, and that's too different for the
parasite to figure out.

Not 100% correct, but as with all analogies close enough to give a general
picture.

Sincerely,
--- Dave
