Is there any galaxy that will really look like a galaxy (distinct elliptical or spiral shape) in a 8" Dob?
We live in a city in North America and our northern and eastern skies have heavy light pollution.
Thank you.
One of my favorites, when it comes to seeing details in a galaxy, is M104 (The Sombrero Gx). The dark lane is very easy to see and it looks to me as close to the pictures as one could expect visually.
But with heavy light pollution... Hmmm... I don't think so. :-(

P.S. I'm trying to remember the NGC number of a very bright galaxy,
but it slips my mind. Can someone remember the one I'm taking
about: It's located very close to a quite bright star (almost
overlapping), but it is visible despite the glare as a bright
elliptical fuzzy. The number was something easy to remember
(like 707, or 1001, or 7007, or something, but none of these,
I checked). Any ideas?
