Care to quote the source of this observation ? Scope ? Place ?

I have tried Encke numerous times (at least once in excellent
conditions) with 7.2" scope (high quality Maksutov Cassegrain, 24%
obstruction, 600X - 750X) and failed.
Not saying its impossible with 8", I'd just want to know the source.
