You'll notice that I say that it's a significant factor, not the only
one. Of course, the beginnings of U.S. domination were already visible
at the turn of the 20th century, even if only in retrospect.
And I don't see a similar exodus from U.S. today due to any xenophobia.
It's not an exodus, so much as an ever-decreasing reliance on U.S.
higher education. But I think the underlying mechanisms have some
noticeable similarities.
But a large part--possibly larger--is a consumer-driven culture.
