Let us not forget about the continuing breakup and decline of the American
family. Kids aren't going to feel much like studying when they see dad

I know people are always citing stuff like this, but usually they are
folks who don't spend a lot of time with kids.
It's quite arguable that rosy glasses and _Leave It to Beaver_ or not,
the American family as experienced by most Americans is in far better
shape now than it was, say, in the 1930s.
Frankly, I think today's kids are easily as "smart" and studious on
average as we baby-boomers were.
At any rate, what's wrong with the Asians having their turn at
greatness?
We (the USA) had our time, the 20th century, and we did do some
wonderful things (and some nasty things, too, of course--though I think
we did pretty well on blance). But nothing lasts forever. Countries and
empires come and go. Certainly, the Victorians would have expected
England to be first on the Moon (assuming they took such a thing
seriously), but it didn't work out that way.
The tide comes in and the tide goes out. It may be--very likely it will
be--that the 21st century is the Chinese century.
