Isn't it fascinating how hobbyists defend themselves when goaded by a
well-meaning troll?
I used to be jealous of those with expensive equipment that never got
used.
Then I visited Hurstmonceux and saw all those huge historical
telescopes and wondered if they ever got used.
Then I realised that most of the things in the world are probably not
used most of the time.
Half the time people were asleep. The other half of the time they were
at at work.
Then I calculated the cost per hour spread over a resonable period
based on the purchase price.
And decided I didn't want to waste so much money on so short a time.
Imagine owning an expensive hifi and calculating the cost per hour of
listening to records or CDs based on the lifetime of the equipment.
Imagine owning a Ferrari and calculating what it is costing per mile
just sitting in traffic.
Or owning a priceless racing Ferrari that was only used once a year on
historic track days!
I'm glad I'm not rich or I'd have to start worrying about these things.
;-)
