If money is no reason than you will likely afford a very good observing
place too. People will tell you you should invest into a refractor.
However, I can tell you it is intellectually a wrong investment.

You didn't tell what kind of observing you will perform: planetary
observing? (a good maksutov where field of view is not so important or
a newtonian or a SC), deep-sky (the larger the scope the better, e g.
a 8 or 10" Dobsonian), or astophotography? (recently there were Meade
test reports in Sky&Telescope about the new system dedicated to
astrophotography/CCD imaging).

My dream as a planetary observer was always a hand selected 7" Maksutov
with mount from Meade. But as far as I know the Meade 7" Maks are never
produced. I do not know why, but that had been my scope in my dreams as
a young boy.

Nowadays I am happy that Maksutovs are produced. They deserve me very
well for planetary observing.

Btw: I know money is important for you too, believe me. There is a
point you must consider when browsing for a new telescope in the
mid-class of 3,4,..8" scopes: the whole light throuhput in a scope can
reduce the effective diameter of a scope remarkably additionally to the
small obstrcution effect. For example, if theory is right, a 90mm ETX
will have no better clear aperture than a 7.2cm scope. The newer UHTC
coatings will shift this dramatically to around 8cm.

If money is no object, why not buy both?

Intes or the Orion Mak-Newt (poor mans refractor) (f/6, 19% COB) wonderful telescopes for lot less. I looked through a few, refractor like images, high contrast!!
Used Orion Mak-Newt can be picked up for $6-7 hundred, Intes may be more.
