There is a big difference in purchase price between an 8" SCT and a 16"
SCT. For an all around telescope what size do you guys think is about
right. I guess the question is for observing is there any great
difference between a 12" and a 14"? Is it really that much better to
justify the cost??

Re: LX200R ...Ritchey-Chretien telescope.... RC scopes advantages over standard SCT is flat field, no mirror flop, ...secondaries, and relatively long focal length primaries, have a _flatter_ ... Think of the design as an 'SCT-GT', ... (sci.astro.amateur)

Re: 14" verses 12" ... Well, I assumed that the original poster was talking about the same telescope,... and so the central obstruction should scale from 12 to 14 ... I also agree with the 8-inch SCT, and would add that the Orion 150mm Maksutov is ... I think it is okay if you compare apertures within the same coating ... (sci.astro.amateur)

A friend of mine compared the views against his 8-inch ...SCT, and said the 127mm version gave sharper and more contrasty views, enabling ...Maksutov but it was not capable to hold water. ...
