Hello to all
I'm fairly new to this group and astronomy and astro photography
in general. I have tried to take a few shots of the moon over the
years unsuccessfully. The problem is I always get a bright ball of
light in the sky with no features.I'm wondering if anyone can give
me any hints on shooting the moon and maybe even Orion for
beginners.

There are several excellent books available on the
subject. Try the photography section in Nightwatch, or
Astrophotography for the Amateur. All the usual sources.
You're not going to get much of the Moon with a 250 mm lens
(1000mm is useful; 2000mm fills a 35mm frame). Exposures
aren't a problem since the Moon is grey rock, and illuminated
by the same sun as the Earth is. So start with sunny f/16.
What results did you get from your favourite search
engine? Were they not useful?
